First game of the Red Rhinos in Belgium

02.06.2009

After 3 months of hard work at the Red Rhinos' practice pitch in Rijmenam (Mechelen), the Rhinos would make their first appearance in a lacrosse game in the history of the club. As ambitious the Rhinos are, they arranged Delft Barons of The Netherlands as their opponents.

The Red Rhinos have practically done everything to be prepare as well possible for this game and could field a roster of 18 players for this game.

In the first quarter of the game there was a huge difference between the Rhinos and the Barons. The Red Rhinos were facing a 0-4 lead for the Barons. This could have been much worse if the Red Rhinos goalie wasn’t on the pitch that day. While the clock was ticking the Rhinos were doing better and better. During the second quarter this resulted in the first Red Rhinos goal, which unfortunately got cancelled by the referee, because of a personal fault of one of the Red Rhinos defenders! Later on in the game the Rhinos did pick up a few goals and the game ended with a 3-9 loss.

Despite the loss everyone on the Red Rhinos team were very pleased with the result. After only 3 months of practicing and with a lot of new players 3-9 is a good result and everyone is looking forward to the next games, which will take place later in June when the Red Rhinos head down to Lille (France) for an international tournament.

The Red Rhinos want to thank the ELF and ISB for helping us building up lacrosse in Belgium and look forward to supporting other lacrosse efforts in Belgium. So if you are interested please contact us by visiting our website Click HERE
