ELF Referee Coordinator Announcement

09.08.2007

With the rapid growth of lacrosse in Europe and the excitement around the sport we are witnessing at the moment, it is essential to stay focused and ensure that key areas essential to the development of the sport are done properly. One of these areas is refereeing.

In order to ensure that this area gets the focus it deserves and needs, the ELF has decided to create a role who will not only be the single point of contact for referee matters in Europe, but also a role that will take on the following tasks:

  • Be on top of referee challenges and opportunities throughout the continent
  • Roll out European and support national referee strategies and plans
  • Ensure sharing of best practices and lessons learned in relation to refereeing
  • Create a European referee section online

The ELF has appointed Matthias Lockemann as its first ever European Referee Coordinator. A lot of you know Matthias already as he has been involved with lacrosse in Germany, throughout Europe - and the world - for years. For those of you who haven't met Matthias yet, I can say that not only is he a very good referee, he has also done a lot of referee development work already and last but not least, he is a great person off the field and/or in the bar as well ;-) . On behalf of the ELF, I want to give a warm welcome to Matthias.

Matthias' contact email is referees@europeanlacrosse.org, so if you have any topics to discuss, questions, needs for assistance or any other referee matters, please don't hesitate to get in touch with Matthias.

One of Matthias' first tasks will be to get an overview of the referees in Europe - for this he needs YOUR help, so expect Matthias to be in contact with you shortly.
